August 23, 2022:- One of the biggest private employers in the United States, Walmart, has chosen to include abortion coverage for its workers. After the Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade, they decided to add abortions to their current healthcare plans.
Per the memo sent to the employees, the healthcare plans will now possess abortion for workers “when there is a health risk to the mother, ectopic pregnancy, rape or incest, miscarriage or absence of fetal viability.” The plans will be “efficacious immediately,” it further noted.
Earlier, the establishment policy stated that abortions were clad under healthcare only “when the mother’s health would be in peril if the fetus were carried to term, the fetus could not survive the birthing procedure, or death would be imminent after birth,” stated Associated Press.
Nevertheless, Walmart’s top official Donna Morris expressed that they had completely transformed the regulations and will also equip “travel support” to workers living in states where abortion is prohibited.
The memo cited Morris as saying that the company accepted the modifications after “listening to our associates about what’s important to them,” She counted that “we strive to deliver quality, effective and affordable health care that sustains you and your families.”
Walmart’s headquarters is presently in Arkansas – one of the places where abortion was banned altogether. However, the organization has decided to invest in a facility that “offers workers fertility services, including in vitro fertilization” and also provides surrogacy support.
