January 12, 2023 : The Prime Minister’s healthcare interpretations are not in the public interest, Downing Street has stated, amid questions over the Government’s response to coercion on the NHS.
Rishi Sunak, considered among the richest ever inhabitants of Downing Street, has previously declined to say if he has private healthcare or not.
Downing Street on Tuesday dubbed it “wholly inappropriate” to suggest that Mr. Sunak was ignorant of the health service’s issues.
The queries over Mr. Sunak’s own medical care arose as warnings grew about the recent “intolerable” situation for patients and workers in the NHS.
Starting the week, the Prime Minister’s official spokesman was pushed on whether Mr. Sunak did or did not have “first-hand knowledge” of the publicly funded healthcare system.
It would be completely wrong to claim the Prime Minister needs to be fully conscious of our health service’s problems.
Downing Street spokesman stated:
“You’ll understand we do not get into the PM’s personal issues in that way, as you would anticipate,” he informed reporters.
“I think it would be completely wrong to claim the Prime Minister is not fully conscious of the challenges our health service faces.
“It is why he has prioritized funding for the NHS in the autumn information at a time of constrained public finances.
“The Prime Minister has numerous meetings very regularly on the NHS. It is one of his top precedences.”
Pushed on whether it was in the public interest for people to understand about Mr. Sunak’s healthcare contracts, the spokesman said: “No, I don’t think getting into medical problems for a prime minister’s family is in the public welfare.”
