April 21, 2023 : Two thousand ambulance employees in Britain will stage fresh walkouts next month, their union told on Wednesday, citing “strong signs” many of its members were dissatisfied with the government’s latest pay proposal.
Staff at several regional ambulance and hospital institutions will strike on May 2, Unite stated in a message.
“The union has obtained strong indications that many members are unhappy with the agreement and is therefore preparing further industrial action,” the union stated.
“Unite has been upfront and unpretentious that it did not think that the pay offer was fair enough for NHS employees.”
The government and some healthcare associations agreed on a 5% pay growth proposal in March, but the plan required to be voted on by employees. Unite has recommended its members reject the suggestion.
On Friday, Nurses in England declined the same offer despite a request from their separate union to take it. They also set out further walkout dates.
Unite stated 3,500 workers, of which 2,000 are ambulance workers, will partake in the strike action next month, including a strike on May 1 by the union’s members at some central London clinics.
